Hellenic League Structure Announced

Woodstock Town will be playing in the newly created Hellenic League Division 2 North it was announced at the League AGM held in Burford yesterday.
The move comes as an unprecedented number of teams applied to join the league meaning that there was capacity for three leagues at division 2 level instead of the traditional two.
The structure is subject to tweaking and minor changes over the next 2 weeks but as it stands, there will be far less travelling for the Reds and more local derbies.
Neil Roberts, club chairman was pleased with the structure. “Travelling is what can put off players coming to clubs like ours. Last season we had to travel to the back of beyond and thankfully this year, it looks like we will have to do less travelling” said Mr Roberts, who spoke to us from his yacht in the south of France. “This also means that attendances are likely to go up as away fans also have less distances to travel, which can only be a good thing for all clubs. We’ve retained a couple of local derbies too which is a bonus as they are always competitive matches and a bit of extra income too”.
Banbury teams will have the the least travelling to do as Easington Sports, Banbury United and Adderbury Park will all be fielding teams in Divsion 2 North, with Southam United also joining from the South Midland League.
The first round of fixtures will be announced in the next few weeks.
