Season Opener Preview v Heyford Athletic (HLCC R1)

It’s finally here, the start of the football season!

The Townhouse Travel and Tours sponsored first team have a tough start to the campaign with a league match away to the always tough Adderbury Park, but before that is the small matter of a Bluefin Challenge Cup tie against the in form Heyford Athletic. How can they be in form you say, the season hasn’t started?!?! Well, let us tell you!

Heyford have spent the past few seasons beating all before them. They have risen from an average Jersey League side to competing in the Hellenic League for the first time, via setting the Oxfordshire Senior League alight.

This close season, Heyford participated in the Jim Newman Cup, besting everyone and putting hosts Clanfield to the sword in the final. They will be looking to bring that form into the season, starting with tomorrow’s game.

Woodstock are without Sam Jeffrey who has to serve a suspension carried over from last season. Nathan Emmett, Tom Butler, Ollie Hawkins,Fraser Day, Patryk Wartalski and new signing Ryan Witoszynski are also unavailable. Tom Molloy looks set to make his debut between the sticks with the Spanish duo of William and Juan also likely to make their competitive debuts for the Reds.

Fortunately, unlike last season, Woodstock have strength in depth and will still be competitive, as they will need to be against very dangerous opposition.

The visitors have two former Woodstock players in their ranks. Goalkeeper Matt Ingram and forward (and tennis sensation) Bobby Gosling return to New Road looking to put one over on their former club.

Can we remind everyone that there will be an entrance charge for all adult spectators tomorrow of £3 with under 16s free.

Tomorrow also sees the return of programmes to New Road after a half a season break. Make sure to grab a copy!

The bar will be open throughout and hot and cold food available.

Kick off is at 3pm
