Despite battling valiantly, the 1st Team went down 2-0 to in form North Leigh United at Eynsham Park on Wednesday evening.
The visitors nearly went ahead in the opening minute but were not able to convert. North Leigh went ahead after the Reds failed to clear their lines from a corner with the ball breaking to Declan Shepherd to poke home from close range. The hosts had the better of the first half and might have been out of sight but for great defending from Wyatt and Strange as well as Piers McGlynns inability to read the line. Crowther was also impressive making a string of fine saves.
However, Haynes, Pike and MacBryan worked tirelessly in the middle to frustrate and break up North Leigh's attacks before they formed.
The second half saw Woodstock on top, competing well and playing with a high tempo that unsettled the hosts. But despite their pressing, Woodstock couldn't break through.
North Leigh provided a sucker punch with a McGlynn shot that was too hot for Crowther to handle.
North Leigh countered in response to Woodstock pressure but were unable to put the game to bed.
Woodstock might have lost this one my manager Matt Pike can take some major positives from this game. The attitude displayed and the work ethic were faultless and with some more clinical finishing, the result could have been different.
