Welcome to Woodstock Callum!

June 15, 2019

Following the departure of Phil Parker to Kidlington in one of the worst kept secrets in football, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Callum Oliver to the position of Development Team manager for the 2019-2020 season.

Callum returns to the club where he spent a brief spell as a player and is eager to continue the legacy set down by Bob Ward, Liam Walker and Phil Parker in working with young players and develop them in order to progress to the 1st team.

Callum fits with the clubs ethos of giving young players and coaches a chance to prove themselves and create sustainable football for the club and the town.

“I’m buzzing and can’t wait to get started” said Callum yesterday. “It’s an honour to be at a proper football club like Woodstock. Everything is what you would hope it to be at a club of this level. They look after you here and the pitch is amazing”

Callum has already met with the first team management and plans are underway to streamline the club and return to a “one club” mentality.

With Callum’s local connections, we are already seeing an influx of new players, some of them local to Woodstock which is amazing from a community engagement perspective. There has also been a few old faces return to the club to play for him.

“This is a special club and the players should feel lucky to play at a club like Woodstock” Oliver continued. “When you consider other clubs at this level are paying to play, having to put up and take down goals, wash their own kits and having to play on terrible pitches covered in dog muck, it makes you realise how privileged I am to be at such a great club and makes attracting players that bit easier. Obviously there are already some great young players at the club with Phil Parker setting a high standard last season and I would hope to keep as many of them as possible but I appreciate that Phil will want to take them with him to Kidlington. If they choose to leave then I wish them the best of luck, but the grass isn’t always greener, especially at Exeter Close!”

As you can see from the picture, Callum is already a fan of the club (Callum is on the far left, taking the Woodstock flag on a pre season football tour of Ireland last season).

His first training session is on Tuesday 18th as he looks to prepare for the start of the Oxfordshire Senior League season in September where he will face off against his predecessors new Kidlington A side.
