It’s been over a year but finally (finally) we have something to show for our troubles at home as the Reds run out 3-1 winners at home to Long Crendon Development in the opening league game of the season.
We have to go back to the final game of the 2017-2018 season for a home win. On that occasion, it was Tythetington Rocks who fell at the hands of Woodstock.
Long Crendon Development have made the big step up from the senior league following their first team winning promotion to Hellenic 1 East for the first time in their history.
The step up showed as Woodstock dominated the game for long periods. Woodstock once again found themselves on the wrong end of some poor officiating when Spanish import William was cynically chopped down as he rounded the keeper only for the referee to give a corner. Plenty of early pressure from the home side forced a string of saves from the Long Crendon keeper.
The pressure finally told as an Ethan Waite cross was picked out of the air by 17 year old Nathan Emmett who was able to swivel and slam the ball home from close range.
The second half was a similar story to the first with Town dominating proceedings. Charlie Collins hit the post before sub keeper Sam Jeffrey made his debut replacing Juan and put Woodstock 2 up within 5 minutes of coming on when his shot was misjudged and squirmed under the Long Crendon keeper.
Collins made amends for his miss with 8 minutes to go with a headed lob over the on rushing away goalie.
Long Crendon got a late consolation but it was too late to stop a new look Woodstock side reap the rewards of the hard work they put in over the close season.
3-1 to Woodstock who go again next weekend against Banbury United Development away.
