Town maintain their 100% start to the 2019-2020 Hellenic League campaign with a 2-1 win over Moreton Rangers.
Woodstock struggled to get going on a rock hard New Road pitch and looked well off the pace in the early stages. Neither side looked likely to score and they toiled in the heat.
Woodstock’s first chance of the half fell to Ethan Waite with a free kick that clipped the wall and went narrowly wide.
The deadlock was broken on 37 minutes when a long ball caught the Woodstock backline cold, the visiting winger skipping past Callum Emmett to bend the ball past Tom Molloy.
Ethan Waite should’ve equalised just before the break but his unchallenged header at the far post sailed over the bar.
After the break, Woodstock slowly grew into the game and increased the pressure on their Gloucestershire opponents.
The pressure finally told on 64 minutes when Juan was given space on the edge of the area and bent the ball into the top corner for the equaliser.
From this point in, it was only a matter of time until Woodstock went ahead and when they did, they did so in style.
Will Spackman’s ball was flicked over the Moreton centre back by Juan who received the ball on the other side of his marker to volley home from 20 yards, the ball still rising as it hit the back of the net, leaving the visiting keeper with no chance.
A disjointed performance but a win nonetheless. That’s 4 wins from 4 and leaves Woodstock 4th in the table with a game in hand over all the teams above them.
